Kathryn Gomert
Kathryn Gohmert’s current work and research deal with undoing othering in an increasingly polarized world.
During her time at ZK/U, she is focusing on using interactive art to alter behavior and counter othering, encouraging connection among individuals. Her project is motivated by the trends we currently see in our world, both globally and at the micro-level of relationships and communities.
She is studying the threat-detection processes of our cognitive wiring and developing techniques to work around them, inspired by ecological models, world-building through play, and game theory.
Her main objectives are to investigate the psychology of exclusion and develop alternative tools and techniques for drawing others to one’s side. She uses these techniques to foster a feeling of security in individuals while encouraging curiosity.
By invoking acts of “play” and creating tools, interactive installations, games, and immersive experiences, she is developing methods for navigating potential conflict and continuing conversations as we face an increasingly uncertain ecological future.
