Responding to: Horizontal: Politics and Poetics from the Sickbed - Poppy Nash

During time at Z/KU Poppy Nash will be embarking on new artistic research using as a starting point the exhibition Horizontal: Politics and Poetics from the sickbed currently on view at Berliner Medizinhistorisches Museum der Charité - and to which Poppy has contributed a previous work and a new commission.
Foundational to this is Nash’s previous research into what she has termed Disobedient Textiles which explored archival textile items created by women in institutional confinement, tracing connections between historical bodies and contemporary experience, and interested in treating archives as living, unstable things rather than fixed records.
Continuing her ongoing interest in marginalia, fragments and soft forms of documentation, Nash is particularly drawn to the exhibitions’ exploration of asymmetrical power relations, the relationship between patient and doctor and the documentation of experience from a perspective position from the sickbed.
Research undertaken whilst at Z/KU will go on to inform the creation of new works on return to Scotland.
