Romson Regarde Bustillo

Romson Regarde Bustillo will investigate themes and generate work umbrellaed under his multi-year project “Proximity Modifiers”. The direction of this artworks questions and examines how place, context, and various cues modify, enhance, and divert meanings. He will consider how these ideas translate(s) in the context of Berlin and this residency.

The conditions found in Berlin from the fall of the Berlin Wall up to the current discourse on multiculturalism and immigration, inhumation practices as culture markers, and evolving social cues, will play roles for this iteration. Dialogue with fellow artists-in-residence and the surrounding communities will contribute to framing our approach. Regarde Bustillo’s research and relationships with Spain and the United States as colonizing powers that have contributed to shaping his own families' transnational and immigrant realities will weigh into this investigation.
