While at ZK/U, Ian James will make photographs and create techno-metaphysical ritual objects made of discarded electronic objects and consumer goods that have been combined, drawn upon and carved into. These objects draw attention to the universal consciousness that exists within subatomic particles.
In addition, he will bring photographs and video shot days/weeks prior to his arrival at ZK/U of recent pyramid architecture as well as photograph several near to Berlin. This work treats these structures as sites of capitalist metaphysics and the act of travelling there as a form of spiritual pilgrimage.
This residency at ZK/U was partially and generously funded by a Faculty Development Grant through Otis College of Art & Design.
