Sitzen is an art project that explores the urban landscape of Berlin through the lens of a foreign female walker of colour. The project is theoretically driven and research-led, delving into the role of urban seats in place-making and the experiences of a walker who interacts with these spaces. Through a combination of ethnographic research, GPS technology, 3D scanning, and modelling, Sitzen aims to spark critical dialogue and reflection on the multifaceted nature of urban seating and its impact on diverse communities. By merging theory and practice, the project encourages people to consider the social, cultural, and political dimensions of sitting and walking in the urban environment. Through this exploration, Sitzen seeks to create new narratives and possibilities, contributing to a more inclusive and dynamic understanding of public space in Berlin and beyond.
