Manifested Belonging - Jesse Gerard

Jesse Gerard ( Tanzania )

Jesse’s project at ZKU aims to broaden the conversation around the position and agency of audiences outside the west and historical and current conditions set around their participation in the moving image industry.  His work will examine the limit and politics of interpretative film experiences, ways of centering collaborative forms of film circulation and precedents for open ended, community based distribution practices — and he will also be sharing Ajabu Ajabu’s work with and around informal film culture in Tanzania. The time, research, and exchanges will inform ‘Manifested Belonging’ an ongoing, interdisciplinary engagement by Ajabu Ajabu around the role of amateur practice, audience-led traditions, and anti-formality in remediating cultural dominance.

Jesse Gerard is a participant of the TURN2 Residencies’ programme. Funded by the TURN2 programme of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation). Funded by the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media).⠀
