“MA16 – for a living monument” is an activist intervention that took take place in Vienna on the 12th of September in the frame of WIENWOCHE – Festival for Art and Activism.

The goal of that performance is to question hegemonial discriminating narratives, that are manifested through monuments and to install a multi-perspective platform for a living memory practice in Vienna.

Therefore tangent.COLLABORATIONS teamed up with activists and designed a bureaucratic hack: the MA16 (“Magistratsabteilung 16”) is the new fake administrative body among the existing 70 “Magistratsabteilungen” - celebrating already its 100th birthday on the 12th of September. Triggering irritation and attention, the hack aims to promote the idea of MA16 as an open-source, multi-perspective platform for a living memory practice in Vienna.

During OPENHAUS, an excerpt of the upcoming Viennese performance was shown. The MA16 jubilee celebration was accompanied by rituals, choral singing, festive speeches and interactive games: one of them is the possibility to lustfully kick over models of existing Viennese monuments.

Tangent.COLLABORATIONS is a transdisciplinary platform that explores in changing constellations new performative forms of expression that enable us to (de)construct and negotiate today’s complex, contractionary and multi-perspective narratives of identities and history.
