Renée Akitelek Mboya ( Kenya )

And Salt The Earth Behind You is a curatorial essay documenting a protest that occurred at the Astor Cinema on Kurfürstendamm in 1966 around the screening of the film Africa Addio which was said to be “the most prominent public political action by African students” of the 1960s. Mboya hopes that what the project could be is a telling of the history of the cinema, as important to German culture and public life but specifically taking the protest of 1966 by black students as a starting point into the narrative of the cinema as a way to think about the black diaspora in Germany and the ways in which their presence has been somewhat overlooked in the development of a political discourse around Germaness and who is German and qualifies to speak on issues of Germaness.
