Launch of the new Issue of the OnCurating Journal: Collective & Collaborative Curating
with Gwendolin Lehnerer
17 OCTOBER 2025 / 17:00-18:30
“Collective & Collaborative Curating” is/was on everyone’s lips – but why is it necessary? What does it propose? How has it been practiced, particularly in the context of the performing arts? This volume opens up a shared field: moving away from the figure of the lone “super-curator” towards horizontal structures that understand curatorial processes as fluid, negotiable, and multi-voiced. Instead of following a linear chapter structure, the book unfolds as a constellation of clusters, interwoven through keywords, case studies, and artist-led contributions. The editors – Sigrid Gareis, Nicole Haitzinger, Gwendolin Lehnerer, and River Lin – invite us to reflect collectively on practices that render curatorial work as open, transformative, and decolonizing. At the core are questions of social engagement, the interplay between local and global dynamics, and new forms of connection across minds, languages, movements, and communities. We are delighted to present this multifaceted volume on October 17 at 5:00 PM at ZK/U and to enter into a conversation with the editors and authors about curatorial collectivity.
