CALL FOR ARTISTS for Project Birkenstraße

+++ DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 21.08.2018 +++

Project

The ‚Birkenstraße Project‘ aims to use the space of the underground station U-Birkenstrasse in an alternative way for artistic actions. The underground station, which is currently undergoing renovation and redesign, will become a stage, an exhibition space for art, or even a subject for artistic works itself. Thereby, this part of the public space is to be re-experienced through performances or the exhibition of artistic works. In particular, it aims to address inherent features of underground stations as transit stations, anonymous meeting places or waiting locations in the public space.

The project is lead and curated  by Matthias Gerber and Linus Lütcke, who are residents at ‚Ständige Vertretung‘ of the Z/KU Berlin from September to October 2018.

Expectation

The call is aimed at artists who, through their works, break open and question common behavioral routines in public space and thus reveal new dimensions of the use (and/or design) of which. Of particular interest are works that promote interaction with their viewers and provoke new ways of seeing and acting in public space in general and the space ‚U-Birkenstrasse‘ in particular.

Application

Please apply with these documents:

• Concept paper (max. 2 pages) outlining the project
• Short biography, portfolio or a short description of previous work

Reward

From September to October 2018, the artists have access to a project room at the ‚Ständige Vertretung!’ of the Z/KU Berlin, as well as a small budget (max. 200€)  for the production of their works.
