Theo Stanley

Dr. Theo Stanley (he/they) is an environmental and cultural geographer whose research examines the relationship between environmental science, technology, finance and justice. His work investigates how, why, and with what effects knowledge about nature produced, and his current research interests include food system resilience, metabolism, the politics of nature recovery, and carbon finance.

Theo is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Southampton and a visiting research fellow at the Centre for Food Policy at City St. George’s, University of London. Theo completed his PhD in Geography at the University of Oxford (2020-2024), where he also worked as a postdoctoral researcher as part of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery (2024). For his PhD, Theo researched the politics of rewilding, carbon finance and nature restoration in the Scottish Highlands. 

Theo was a Visiting Research Fellow at Humboldt University, Berlin (2023) and taught at Oxford on the MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance (2020-2022) and the MA in Medical Anthropology (2021-2022). Prior to his PhD, he worked for the anti-deforestation think-tank Global Canopy (2019-2020). He holds an MSc in Environmental Governance (Graded Distinction) and a BA (hons, First Class) in Philosophy from the University of Bristol.
