Olya Zarapina was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and currently lives and works in Montreal, Quebec. In her practice she investigates the concept of home, not only as a private house, or even neighbourhood, or a city, but also as a sentiment of familiarity, or belonging. By using a variety of analogue photographic production and projection techniques, ranging from in-situ camera obscuras, to carousel slide installations, to moving photo-filmic projections her current work is focusing on the effects of memory and nostalgia on the perception and documentation of everyday spaces.
