He attained his masters in Sociocultural Studies at Europa-Universität Viadrina where he worked as a research assistant to Prof. Dr. Andreas Reckwitz in the department of Comparative Cultural Sociology. Currently he works at Ballhaus Naunynstraße Berlin where he co-curated the discursive program “Buna Hour” as part of the festival “Postcolonial Poly Perspectives”(2019) as well as the performativelaboratory “Intercultural Processes & Art: The Next Level (2017). At Oper Bern he is part of the dramaturgic team of the production “Sykorax” (2022). In his curatorial practice Julien is interested in how the conflation of artistic and discursive expressions disrupt conventionalized perceptions by affirming different kinds of embodied knowledges. His research revolves around the historicizing of Black surrealists and their anti-colonial understanding and philosophical conceptualization of poetry and jazz.
