(Germany)
Johannes Weilandt lives and works as a visual artist in Berlin. In various media such as video, scenography and serial drawings, he deals with often repressed traces, impacts and continuities of post-national socialist and post-socialist spaces of experience in the context of the so-called “reunified” Germany. While his drawings mostly focus on the human body in the context of institutional experiences, his video and scenographic works explore the connection between architecture, ideology and history in interaction with public space.
In addition to his artistic work, he founded the association “OST format e.V.” in 2024 together with director and performer Karoline Stegemann, which initiates and promotes documentary-artistic projects that deal with East German and Eastern European identity and history.
