Joanna is a historian (PhD), academic lecturer, film critic and dramaturgist. She studied at the Institute of Audiovisual Arts and the Institute of Jewish Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Gender Studies and Hebrew Studies at the University of Warsaw and at the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź.
Author of several books about so-called forgotten victims of WWII: Unmentioned: Forced sexual work during the Second World War (Marginesy, 2018); Jene. Homosexuelle während des Zweiten Weltkriegs (Metropol, 2023). In 2021, she was awarded the Orfeo Iris ILGCN (International Rainbow Culture Network) award for her research on the history of queer people during World War II. In 2022 - The Nike Audience Award for her book Jene.
