Jeeyoung Lee

Jeeyoung Lee (GEUM Beollae) have focused on concepts of dwelling and how humanity puts meanings to materiality; objects, spaces and images. In this sense, she is interested in material culture and diverse form of commemoration practices of May18 People’s Uprising that occurred in Gwangju, South Korea in 1980.

In 2021, she worked as a visiting researcher at May18 Research Institute, Gwangju. Also, she co-curated an exhibition Before the Law that is about the May 18 trial, and she is one of the authors of the book POST 5∙18. Now, GEUM Beollae is participating in the exhibition Strange Attractor as an artist at Pavilhão Branco(Municipal Galleries, Lisbon, 12.2021-3.2022). https://galeriasmunicipais.pt/exposicoes/strange-attractor/
