Corinne Thiessen is a Canadian, multidisciplinary artist curious about human social activity especially pertaining to social norms, self-regulation and social control. Through kinetic objects, drawing, video and performance, her work explores physical and ideological impediments, repression and “acting out.” Corinne is interested the parallels between historical, medical and psychoanalytical treatments and contemporary discursive methods that pathologize bodies (as well as behaviours) and construct “disease.” Prosthetics and body restraints are incorporated in her work as a metaphor for social constraint and civic silencing.
