Baahwa

Baahwa is a Ghanaian artist who explores the beauty, fractures, and nuanced relationships that shape individual and collective African identities,
with a practice rooted in a commitment to humanize and reclaim narratives that have been silenced or misrepresented.
Central to her practice are identity, care, memory, and honoring the lived experiences of women and LGBTQI+ people.
With photography as her primary form of artistic expression, Baahwa works with a multidisciplinary approach that draws on her rich cultural background, ancestral herbal knowledge, and passion for community building. She combines installation, care rituals, and archival practice with photography to create artworks and immersive experiences that hold affirming and encouraging spaces for her audiences.
Baahwa is a Va-Bene Scholarship and Mentorship Residency Abroad (VS-MRA) Fellow (2026), an alumnux of perfocraZe International Artist Residency, Kumasi (2025), and a recipient of Africa Prime Initiative (API) Grant (2024).
