Aiwen Yin

(China)

Yin Aiwen is a practicing designer, design theorist and project developer, who uses writing, speculative design and time-based art to examine the social impact of planetary communication technologies. She advocates relationship-focused design as a strategy to redesign, re-engineer and reimagine the relationship between technology and the society. 

Aiwen’s work had been exhibited internationally, venues include Dutch Design Week (NL) Today’s Art (NL), Het Nieuwe Instituut (NL), Faena Art Center (AR), Chaumont Design Graphite (FR), SXSW festival (US) and more. Her writing appears on renowned publishing platforms includes: Volume Magazine (NL), Metropolis M (NL), DAMN Magazine(BE), Miami Rail (US), Rhizome (US) and more. Besides exhibiting and writing, she works as a strategic consultant for cultural institutions. She also has been an initiator and project developer for projects like Monolithm (2016-2017), Phi (2017-2018), ReUnion (2017 – ongoing), Urbanizing the digital (2017 – ongoing), which have received supports from Creative Industries Fund NL and Mondriaan Fonds NL.

Aiwen holds a BFA in Visual Communication from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, and an MFA in Design from Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam. She have received research fellowships from The New Normal in Strelka Institute, Moscow and from Art Center South Florida, Miami.
