Diepdruck - Maurik Stomps

Maurik Stomps ( Netherlands )

Alongside the perpetual stream of playful experiments on public space that forms the foundation of Maurik’s practice—and which he will continue at ZK/U—he will be working on an ongoing, long-term project called Diepdruk.

Last year he started an introspective deep dive that led him back to his own family history, the drowning of a brother he never knew and the lasting impressions this loss left on his and his family's daily lives. Through the playful process of creation, Maurik searches for physical parallels to these emotional themes. He dropped six perfectly uniform metal cubes 500 meters below the surface of a Norwegian fjord, where immense pressure of the water reshaped them irreversibly.

Maurik will be working on the publication and short film on this process.
