Foreigners is an artistic research born out of the first collaboration between Valérie Potvin, a visual artist specializing in sculptural installation based in Québec City and Berlin, and Simon Laroche, a transdisciplinary artist based in Montreal. The project explores a dialogue between traditional sculpture, living materiality, and digital technologies, through the creation of hybrid works integrating movement and robotic devices.
Combining molding, 3D modeling and printing, photogrammetry, laser cutting and electromechanics, the artists aim to develop sculptures in which matter — sometimes living — unfolds and develops in time and space, transforming the experience of form into an evolving sensory and narrative phenomenon. This alliance between organic and manufactured approaches foregrounds the relationships linking human beings, technology, the living world, and nature, while avoiding the all-too-obvious natural-artificial dichotomy.
The residency at ZK/U will provide an ideal context for initial experimentation, offering the artist a space to explore living materiality as a casting medium.
