Leo means Klara. - Joanna Ostrowska

Joanna Ostrowska

During the residency in ZK/U Joanna “investigates” and researches the biography of Klara Pförtsch aka Leo who was a prisoner of KL Ravensbrück, KL Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Moabit prison. Her biography is “marked” as the controversial one in Germany. In Poland, Leo exists as an anonymous protagonist in some testimonies.

This “investigation” is part of Joanna's new book about queer women’s lives during WWII. The proposed research about Klara is connected also with the visual documents (photos, files, maps, objects) which are “tips” for new way of writing this biography – erased from Polish collective memory and misrepresented in German public discourse.
