Safi Adnan ( Jordan )

Since Safi Adnan was a child, he has been reshaping the space in his imagination, drawing the lines and landmarks of his home, his neighborhood, his city and its common spaces. Adnan has always drawn this world into his own, using it as a means of belonging and influence.

In his residency, he will rethink and further explore the connections that strengthen the idea of belonging and integration into a particular community or place, not only for Adnan but for many artists and cultural practitioners, activists in exile. Through this experience, he hopes on contributing to the creation of new experiences that foster a sense of cohesion, communication and exchange with others, as well as a sense of connection, continuity of their work, impact and influence, even when artists and cultural workers are in exile.

For Adnan, sustainability or continuity is an integral part of the concept of belonging, which is an essential part of identity building and is strengthened by being part of a shared and safe community full of culture, diversity, openness and colour. This ensures a feeling of comfort, safety, emotional and social stability, and thus maintains sustainable access to a dignified life.
