Daria Khvorova and Evgeny Savoyskiy

During the residency, Dasha and Evgeny practised their emerging multidisciplinary research method aimed at exploring the phenomenological modes of memory and imagination in the context of displacement.

They engaged other fellows to create a collective framework for reflecting personal experiences during discussions and two workshops, where people shared their memories and sensations, and then reified those together in a playful way, using a small replica of a diorama with clay objects.

Exploring the abilities of memory and imagination for their spatial practice, Dasha and Evgeny sought to rethink the mass-culture representation of urban imagery and expand its expressivity to unveil human agency as opposed to space representation conceived by dominant groups.

Shaped through dialogue and reciprocal reflection, the Empathic Diorama has revealed itself not merely as a manifestation for the moment of mutual understanding, but also as a potential support structure for dealing with complex shared pasts, particularly in post-conflict situations.
