Moving from the Kitchen to the Garden is a metaphor as Suresh’s home and art scapce 1Shanthiroad is in between two important gardens in the city, Lalbagh, and Cubbon park. The road that connects Lalbagh passes through 1Shanthiroad, a space that nurtured creativity in many and has made space for art in Bangalore and connected this city to the creatives beyond the boundaries of Bangalore and India.
Suresh’s life in Shanthiroad is entwined with two gardens that connect this city to the global network and transactions of trees and people in his city and space. Suresh’s own concerns with the kitchen and the garden in Bangalore and Berlin inspire his work.
The 1Shanthiroad Cookbook was published in 2021 which frames the kitchen as an integral part of the space, archiving recipes across generations, cultures, and timelines while anchoring itself in the cultural history of the more expansive city. Bangalore‘s Lalbagh - A Chronicle of the Garden and the City, published in 2021, is an anecdote, it has illustrations, images from his family albums, and archival documents lost from public memory.
