Pablo Santacana López ( Spain )

Softcore Historicism is an artistic research project investigating contemporary methods of immersive historical reconstruction and collective reenactment in public space, focusing on their agency as political tools and their connections with social movements.

During his fellowshop at ZK/U, the research of Pablo Santacana will take the form of a virtual archive from a fictitious institution, the Institute for Para-Enactment Research (I-P-E-R). Para-enactments go besides, beyond, and in the interstices of canonical historical representations, and is a term used to frame collective forms of historical representation that make use of historical immersion within practices of para-institutionality.

I-P-E-R is an artistic translation of Pablo Santacana’s on-going academic research inside the DFG Research Training Group “Identity and Heritage” about historicist forms of knowledge production link with live arts (theater and performance),  popular culture (historical fairs, mass reenactments, theme parks) and bottom-up initiatives (community museums).
