The urban and Instagram action "Language should be tortured to tell the truth." is part of a new site-specific immersive performance work by former ZK/U resident Grace Euna Kim, THE BEAUTIFUL SOULS, which will premiere in Berlin on 02 September 2021 at Haus der Statistik, Autoscooter (backyard) - with additional showings on 03 and 04 September.
THE BEAUTIFUL SOULS is the third of a continuing series that explores symbolic violence and the body as a site of resistance in crisis. The first iteration “A Prelude to the Last” (2018) questioned potentialities of the falling body to open empathy and invoke action among strangers. “Dance Party (the apocalypse is disappointing)” (2019), the second work addressed psycho-corporeal (imaginary) violence as a means to decode and dismantle ideologies of the body and reinvent ways of being together. The third and new performance work THE BEAUTIFUL SOULS takes as its focus the politics of perception and the violence of the encounter with the Other.
