Where It All Began - Gal Amiram

"Where it all began (City of David)" (c) Gal Amiram, 2020-ongoing

Gal Amiram ( Israel )

Gal Amiram is currently working on a project that focuses on three archaeological excavations turned tourist attractions in Palestine and how these national parks are used to give historical weight and moral force to settler’s claim over land in the West Bank. In each of these sites, filled with discoveries and contested narratives, settlers have used audio-visual experiences—guided tours, simulations, and sounds—to tell a selective story that bonds the Jewish past to the land of Palestine. Amiram is working on a project that exhibits the landscapes of the “Holy Land” from these particular sites yet offers a critique of settler ideology and how it constructs the cultural memory of Israelis.
