Project at ZK/U - Valerie Potvin

Valerie Potvin ( Canada )

Valerie Potvin will do a sculptural research to create a new art installation. Also, experiments on matter and performances with the sculptures will lead to photographic and videographic documents which could be integrated in the installation or simply could become other projects. Different video devices will allow her to observe her own sculptures in the urban landscape, from the farthest possible distance, to a macroscopic or even microscopic proximity and make films.

Through her creative process, she will pursue her quest for balance between a material production and an ever-increasing ecological awareness. Working with natural elements, plants, animals and ephemerally is considerered. Nevertheless, molding technics, with low ecological footprint materials and unconventional ones, will be used. Human representation will therefore inevitably surface in this project. The work of deconstruction and reconstruction of matter and forms will lead to hybrid and strange representations translating multiple layers of meaning on social topics.

The project is part of the culture program related to Canada’s Guest of Honour presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2020.
