Berlin project - Hilde Retzlaff

Hilde Retzlaff ( Sweden )

I rework found material and objects according to artistic methods related to metaphysical and lingustic ideas. Hermetic tradition and alchemy, with its processing and refining of material, has been a conceptual foundation for my methodology. Amongst the ideas that originate from lingustics, Deconstruction and Structuralism above all have informed my work.

A lingustic approach can be seen in several of my works, such as the Logogram series. A technique I keep coming back to is Cut-ups – a collagetechnique mainly used in text and film, developed by Bryan Gysin and William Burroughs. This technique encompasses all the mentioned concepts and methods.
