Project at ZK/U - Catherine Ryan, Amy Spiers

Catherine Ryan ( Australia ), Amy Spiers ( Australia )

During their time at the ZK/U, Amy and Catherine will begin researching how public art and monuments are used to construct collective histories and national identities, focusing on Berlin. Berlin is a city in which national histories and identities have been built and rebuilt many times in the last century, often over the same sites. This makes it an ideal place to start exploring the questions about public commemoration of the past.

Amy and Catherine are interested in exploring Berlin’s public monuments in order to think about new ways of presenting Australia’s history in its own public spaces.

You can follow their research through their project blog: The Futures of the Past
