Steganographic publishing

How can steganography lend itself to publishing sensitive, erased, forgotten, underground, information to reach new audiences while also considering the safety of the publishers and authors who wish to protect their identity?

Steganography as form of secret writing, is the art and science of hiding information within public information. At the centre of this practice is the instrumentalization of the innocent to reach new audiences and evade surveillance, censorship and control. Since 2015 i’ve been working on an artistic research project called “Tactics and Poetics of Invisibility” where I explore analog and obsolete steganography as a low-tech, under-the-radar evasion tactic against pervasive high-tech digital surveillance. Initially conceived in a Western/European context, I explored steganography as a alternative communication channel, however as a result of working within the context of China, the project has expanded and shifted focus to exploring steganography as an alternative publishing channel.
