Socially engaged art & the Commons

'ART as/is SOCIAL: On engagement in contemporary cultural theory & practice' is a new discursive format with close readings, discussions and case studies around the topic of socially engaged artistic practices.

In this special guest SESSION #6: ‘Socially engaged art & the Commons’ artist, educator and curator Rebecca Beinart will explore ideas of the Commons and enclosure, and practices of 'commoning' in arts projects and organisations as a way of social engagement through several case studies. Casco Art Institute’s (Utrecht, NL) views on working for the commons is taken as a point of departure for this session. The reading material can also be found online: http://casco.art/casco-art-institute-working-for-the-commons-introduction.
