Nancy Woods ( United States )

Woods’s work explores issues regarding self-perception, escapism, and renovation through the mediums of video, performance, painting, and sculpture. Most recently the works have come out of research of the history of popular psychology, self-help, and life coaching. Woods often uses herself as a guinea pig; immersing herself into relationships with life coaches, practicing self-help, and rediscovering lost practices of experimental popular psychology. The work which is realized from these experiences, presents popular psychological practices in a performative manner to reveal the theatricality of constructed identity.
