A one - act – play or An anti-archive - Lena Athanasopoulou

Lena Athanasopoulou ( Greece )

“Now to find one’s way around a city does not mean much. But to lose one’s way in a city, as one loses one’s way in a forest, requires some schooling”.

Walter Benjamin, Berlin Childhood around 1900.

The artist intends to experience parts of the city of Berlin via the writings of Walter Benjamin. She intends to explore ideas/dipoles that refer to the monumental-the unnecessary, valuable-trash, end and infinity - flow and full stop, memory-lethe. She will conduct research on 19-20th century photography (portraiture, city, landscape, war photography) & newspaper archives. In a dream the landscape becomes a metaphor: the river waltzes with time, sight questions reality, and desire aims to brink everything upside down. Reverse the landscape, negate certainties, maybe then a non remarkable event could become a valuable element of a very important archive: the one that proves and underlines our own existence.
